Film language - Learner response

Consider streotypes, and how they are being reinforced

People and places are represented in different ways in this trailer. As you can see the trailer consists all white people in it working in the control rooms of America which connotes the trailer is going to be about Americans. This represents that it is stereotypical because it shows that women are not capable of doing this and working for the united, and shows that only men have more power than women. It also represents that the entire male are middle age male C1 which means they are high classed society people as said in the ideology views and this is most likely to be heterosexual as this forms a stereotypical of them.

Also as we get further into the trailer we can see the foreigners are represented in a sly way as they are quite. As there is a close-up of them where it shows their facial expressions to the audience and this foreshadows that they might be the antagonists of the trailer as the theorist says. They create the theorist odorous disequilibrium as we know that the foreigners have taken over the plane. Normally villains are confident but this goes against the stereotype and makes it more realistic ( also for the men in the control room, it portrays a stereotype of the kind of people that work so high up in charge of keeping everything organised and safe and this represents them as a high class people).

Furthermore in the trailer America is seen as powerful country, but seems to have let terrorists take over which goes against their stereotype. This shows America have values of being able to work as a team and be organised and able to make use of the technology. There is also a dominant stereotype of foreigners being terrorists. Americans and foreigners and represents in a way which they create binary opposition as foreigners are quite sly and sneaky opposed to Americans. Furthermore the camera movement reinforces the idea of ‘them and us’ informing the audience that the villains are dangerous. Finally males are seen in the whole clip which means power, dominant and make decisions.

Media forms and representations

SKY FALL

This is a trailer of sky fall which was released in 2012
this movie genre is an action genre which contains fighting scenes and violence

1) how does trailer use media language to catch the attention of the audience?

Firstly as you can see the first part of the trailer starts of with a over the shoulder shot of a guy walking into the room with low key lighting which is created in that scene by using only the key and back lights, this also gives a strong contrast affect and creates dramatic shadows with a dark shadow called chiaroscuro. After that there is a scene where there is a close-up of two men which shows their facial expressions of how they are reacting and they are in a fighting scene which connotes that there is going to be a foreshadow

The trailer then uses media language catch attention of the e4 viewing audience. Their is then a medium shot of a women shouting which and this shows her facial expressions and what the person is wearing and from the clothes the women is wearing she looks quite smart and their is top lighting used for that which comes from above and can be used to accentuate the features of a character which makes the women look more glamorous and this is to catch the audience attention by the way the women is dressed audiences such as women would want to see it. Also from the medium shot we can also see how her personality is and the way she is shouting at her phone connotes that she might be the villain of the movie. Their is then a close-up of a boy with a gun which is a good use of prop, this connotes that he is the bad guy and is up to something and creates an enigma code for the audience such as men who are into fighting scenes. Also his facial expressions look quite serious.

Secondly the editing of the movie is very significant and well used through out the film trailer, the first scene shows a dissolved cut to another scene which straight away takes you to the other genre which is the fighting scene this shows foreshadow for the audience. This also shows an affect to catch the attention of the audience by having that type of cut which makes the audience more engaged to the film. Their is then also a panning shot which is showing the training going by which connotes enigma because the audience will want to know why the train is getting aimed at. Also in that part of the scene their is also a establishing shot so that the audience can clearly see what is happening in that scene. as we go further in the trailer as the second scene comes along their is an digetic sound which is an natural sound to come and a sound bridge where the sound is still continuing. Their is then a point of view shot of the actor which shows what the other actor is seeing. Also as the women female fetale keeps coming again and again in most scenes it gives the audience the sense that she might be the protagonist of the movie.

The binary opposition is also used well in the film trailer this attracts the audience into watching it with the different contrasts of colors used throughout the movie. also their are fertishize shots being used through out the scene where they use to show certain parts of the body so the audience could analyse how they are looking. Furthermore gender in this film trailer is represented by the use of language used in the trailer as most scene shows actors in direct mode of address which connotes that the actors are looking directly to the audience how ever their is also in-direct mode of address used.

2)How is gender represented in the trailer?

The main target audience for this movie would be men because this is a bond's movie and it mostly targeted at men as in this men are known as agents and go on and in this men are mostly the protagonists and this connotes how most men would be known as high status and this could be stereotypical. This also hows how men are so strong as all the agents are men however their is also a women agent in the film trailer which could connote women are also equal to men and show this to the audience. Their is also a linear pattern which is used throughout this film trailer which has a beginning, middle and an end and this could connote that their is also a polysemic used which means most images would have multiple meaning. However as their is a female fetale in the film trailer it could connote that women are also target for this movie and as we see throughout the film trailer its decisive since theirs a part where it explains women lead the 007 on which could connote that gender in this movie could be represented in a fair way which means it could be targeted at men and women both. Also the women's body language is very straight forward and formal which shows her personality to the audience.

Gender is also represented in this trailer by having a lot of different props used in this trailer such as guns, explosions and weapons involved which could connote violence and this could refer to the men and as men are into these kind of things. Also the sound used in this movie is digetic sound because this is the sound we would normally expect to hear in these types of movies and men who are targeted would like these types of music as it is something they would want to listen to. However as the film is a action genre we can clearly tell the film is targeted at men mostly as the audience gaze to look at how many men characters are involved in the movie which would connote that men are mostly the protagonists in this movie and other.

Finaly the way the binary opposition is used to show the contrast of color it connotes to how men would want to see it as their are serious colors used in this film trailer and not the type of colors women would want to see as they like bright colors. Also as their are most bomb expositions and gun shots used in this movie it foretells that something is going happen later throughout the movie and this is something you would expect from the use of props and music used. Their is also a lot of enigma and action code created in this movie as we see this a lot and the gender (men) would like these types of things as they would want their to be some kind of suspense and action used in this movie.

My Magazine Image

Mickey Mouse

This is an image of my sister in Disney land with mickey mouse. I would put this on my front cover because this image appeals to my target, because my target audience is aged 8-13 years ( kids and teenagers) and those are the years children like watching Disney channel and admire mickey mouse, this would appeal to them because mickey mouse Is a very famous cartoon character. Also this photo would make the target audience want to go to Disney land and have an experience of their own. This image is also bright and colourful and stands out to the target audience and they would want to buy the magazine as seeing Mickey Mouse on the front cover would attract them. Also as you can see they are both smiling which connotes happiness for the audience.

Annalysing two film trailors The paper boy and ..

The Paper Boy

The paper boy was nominated best editing and won the award, it also won the best production out of many other trailers. Firstly the setting of the film trailer is set in school, the starting of the trailer is set outside the school shot in a landscape mode which shows the whole scenery of the location. It is also filmed in black and white (monochrome) also while it moves along to the next scene the background music is non-diegetic sound and it creates some kind of suspense at the start of what the movie will be about.

When moving slowly to the next scene in the trailer it is set inside the school where a boy gets bullied this could connote to the audience that he might be getting bullied or has a problem, and this is filmed with a long shot which shows the movements and facial expressions of the people. Also their has been good props used in the trailer for the paper boy.

In the middle of the trailor it says the "past will haunt you" and shows the paper boy outside a car window which connotes fear and mystery about what is happening after that, their is a good use of film editing when it goes back and has a rewind of what was happening. At the end of the trailor it reveals who the actual paper boy was.

The watchful eye

The watchful eye was awarded the best horror year 12 production. In the starting of the trailor it is set inside a house where a girl goes out in a hurry. This could connote that she might be in some kind of problem. and their is diegetic sound playing in the background of a girl saying their is a mental girl who has escaped which creates fear for the audience.

The girl then brings a boy home and it is filmed with a long shot which shows what they are doing and their facial expressions and after a few minutes later their is an diegetic sound (a knock) on the door and it creates suspense for the audience. After that when she opens the door and comes back the boy "steve" is missing she looks for him everywere and cant find him.

After a while, the boy is found and she tries running away but it says "how far will you go" this creates the feeling that their is someone watching you, and their is a pan movement while she is running accross the park.

Fish tank film review

                                                Fish tank film review
The film that I will be reviewing is called fish tank. Fish tank is directed by Andrea Arnold, she is an academy award winning filmmaker and former actress from England. She has directed many other movies such as wasp, red road and her most popular hit called fish tank. Fish tank was premiered in 2009 and received the jury price; the film was backed up by the limelight fund, BBC films and the UK council’s new cinema fund and this is said at the start of the movie. Fish tank movie casts Harry Treadaway, Jason Maza, Katie Jarvis, Kierston Wareing, Michael Fassbender and Rebecca Griffiths. Fish tank movie’s target audience mostly appeals to people aged 16 and over. As the movie involves violence and inappropriate language used which is not suitable for young kids. This movie involves a lot of bad language and which is appropriate for people aged 16+. It is aimed at them because the movie tells an inside story of a girl living a horrible life with her family. This teaches us how different people are living and being treated.

The centre of the movie is a newcomer actor named Katie Jarvis who plays Mia in the movie fish tank. She plays the main role in this movie. The audience wouldn’t be familiar with this character as this is a newcomer and this is her first movie that she has been stared in. Her character in the movie is a very mean and selfish and lairy 15 year old that also has a hidden personality behind who she is in the movie. Her personality connotes us too think she is a cruel and bad girl who has no respect and hasn’t been raised properly. Her role in the movie is a person who is always creating fights wherever she goes and this is shown where she breaks a girl’s nose at the start of the movie which straight away tells us what kind of person she is. Mia has one passion which she thinks she is most good at, which is dancing. Mia is into urban dancing; the movie tells us how much interest she has in dance. Mia also has a feisty younger sister called Tyler who has been played by Rebecca Griffiths. She is always winding Mia up in the movie with silly threats saying she will “tell on her”. Furthermore there is no dad in the picture of the movie which shows Mia is only living with her sister and her mum who is played by Kierston Wareing who has a worse personality than Mia, her mum swears shouts and also hits her daughters and treats them a lot worse than you think. Mia gets her personality inherited from her mum as they are both like each other. The Plot of the movie is a girl who is hoping to have someone in her life who would treat her right as the people she has in her life doesn’t seem to care a single bit about her.

The next main character in the movie is called Connor who is her mum’s boyfriend in the movie. Connor is funny, confident and utterly relaxed person in the movie where everyone else in the movie appears to have a total opposite personality to him. Mia has a quite a close relationship with him as he treats her how she wants to be treated, throughout the movie Mia hopes Connor could be a father figure, and both the sisters are thrilled when he takes them all out for a drive. However things don’t seem how they are.

Connor also has a hidden personality behind him. As being the boyfriend of her mother she also has an affair with the daughter Mia which gives the audience a shock. Watching the movie half way there was a twist in it which shows the scene where the mother’s boyfriend try’s it with Mia and this gives me a bad impact on the type of guy the man is. However there was also another story behind him. Connor who was living with Mia and her family really had a family of his own, he has a wife and a little daughter which has moved away from for a couple of days to live with Mia and her family and breaks her mother’s heart. Mia then Goes to his house and finds out his real life story and what’s behind him.
